The Future of Energy Supply and Demand
(世界におけるトタルの活動と今後のエネルギー需給の動向)
トタル日本法人社長
Luigi Colantuoni

With the current downturn of the world economy, the global use of energy has fallen this year for the first time since 1981. The consumption of both gas and electricity might fall by 3.5% in 2009 compared to the previous year, and the energy industry has been deeply impacted by the crisis (falling cash flows, reduction or cancellation of main projects...).

But if the demand is slowing nowadays, it may increase up to 40% by 2030, according to the last forecast issued by the IEA. What will be the short and mid-term consequences of the current investment cuts and delays when the global economy will fully recover? How can energy policies positively influence environmental discussions?

Pushed by both the tremendous development of countries such as India or China and raising concerns about climate change, the sustainability of future energy supply and demand is the key issue of the coming decades.
