Seminar

Although Sino-Japan political relationship worsened during the first half of the 2000s, it did not affect bilateral economic relationship so much, thanks to the strong economic ties. It is the so-called “politically cold, economically hot” phenomenon. In recent years, however, China’s economic slowdown and structural issues, such as labour shortages, have caused the worsening bilateral political relationship that impacts the economies significantly since 2010. Sino-Japan trade hit a wall, and direct investments have decreased, which has led the Sino-Japan relationship to be “politically cold, economically cold.” Currently, the overall Sino-Japan relationship is at a critical crossroad politically, diplomatically and economically. How does the Sino-Japan relationship develop in the future? As we find ourselves during this uncertain time, we must now do more research on China. In this academic year, the seminar will focus on the abovementioned issues. The globally-minded students are inspired to join the team. From previous experience, this seminar tends to be multicultural and requires mutual understanding and communication skills.
